2,6-Dichloroaniline
A high-purity dichlorinated aromatic amine with both ortho positions blocked — supplied for pharmaceutical, agrochemical and dye intermediate synthesis.
What is 2,6-Dichloroaniline?
2,6-Dichloroaniline — 26DCA — is a white to light brown crystalline solid with chlorine atoms on both carbons next to the amino group.
Flanking the amine with two chlorines shields the nitrogen and twists any attached aryl group out of plane. That geometry is exactly what several anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular APIs rely on, and it also gives controlled reactivity in agrochemical synthesis.
At Chelora Agrochem, 26DCA is refined with isomer content, melting range and moisture held to specification, so condensation and coupling steps downstream run reproducibly.

Storage and guidelines
- 01Store in tightly closed original packaging in a cool, dry, well-ventilated store.
- 02Keep below 25 °C — the product softens and cakes as it approaches its melting range.
- 03Protect from air and light — aromatic amines darken slowly on oxidation.
- 04Segregate from strong oxidising agents, acids and acid chlorides.
- 05Keep packaging palletised and dry, and re-seal opened packaging promptly.
- 06Prevent any release to drains, surface water or soil — the product is toxic to aquatic life.
Handling precautions
26DCA is a toxic chlorinated aromatic amine that is harmful by inhalation, ingestion and skin contact. It is for industrial use by trained personnel only.
Aromatic amines are absorbed through intact skin and can affect the blood by forming methaemoglobin. Chemical-resistant gloves, coveralls, eye protection and, where needed, respiratory protection are required.
Control dust during bag or drum emptying and charging, and use local exhaust ventilation at all transfer points.
The product melts at a low temperature, so warm-weather storage can produce partially molten material. Check packaging before opening and avoid skin contact with the liquid phase.
The product is toxic to aquatic life. Contain all spills and dispose of waste through licensed chemical waste routes.
Refer to the full Safety Data Sheet for exposure limits, spill response and first-aid measures before use.
Frequently asked questions
It is mainly a pharmaceutical intermediate — notably for diclofenac-type anti-inflammatory and imidazoline antihypertensive routes — and also serves agrochemical and dye chemistry.
Blocking both positions next to the amine shields the nitrogen and forces attached aryl rings to twist. Many APIs depend on that shape, so the 2,6-isomer cannot be replaced by other dichloroanilines.
Its melting point is only 36–39 °C, so it can soften and fuse during warm storage or transport. Keeping it below 25 °C and away from direct sun prevents most caking.
Only slightly. It dissolves readily in alcohols, ethers and aromatic solvents, and in dilute mineral acid, so reactions are normally run in organic media or after acid dissolution.
Aromatic amines oxidise slowly on contact with air and light, forming coloured impurities. Assay is usually unaffected, but sealed, cool, dark storage preserves colour for sensitive applications.
Standard grade is supplied at a minimum assay of 99% with isomer content at or below 0.5% and moisture at or below 0.3%. Tighter specifications can be produced to a customer specification sheet.
25 kg and 200 kg drums. Samples are available for trial and development work.
Yes. Like other aromatic amines it is toxic by several routes, absorbed through skin and hazardous to aquatic life. Trained personnel, engineering controls and full PPE are required per the Safety Data Sheet.
Yes. Every batch is dispatched with a Certificate of Analysis and Safety Data Sheet covering assay, impurity profile, moisture and appearance.
